Amidst the gloom surrounding the High Street at the moment,
a small business in Wigan town centre is bucking the trend big style. Since
taking over “Holiday Getaway”, an independent travel agency,
in April last year, Angela Lucas has increased sales by more than 300%, moved
to bigger premises and taken on more staff.
Angela’s enterprising approach was recognised when she won “Entrepreneur
of the Year” at the recent Wigan Business Awards, beating off challenges
from much bigger and more established local businesses.
Angela puts her success down to providing excellent customer service. She
prides herself on the amount of repeat business and word of mouth recommendations “Holiday
Getaway” receives.
Angela’s plans for 2009 include introducing a foreign exchange service
and developing her website. Longer term, she aims to open more branches.
